Regional Media Visits NGC

On Thursday 4 June, 21 members of the local and regional media visited NGC on what was the second day of a three-day workshop designed to expand awareness and upgrade skills in the coverage of international financial, economic and business affairs in preparation for eh Commonwealth Head of Government meeting (CHOGM). This event will take place in Port-of-Spain from November 27 to 29, 2009.

The objective of this Summit is to engage leaders of the Commonwealth in discussing global and Commonwealth issues and to agree upon collective policies and initiatives.

At the 2007 summit in Kampala, Uganda, Commonwealth Heads of Government reaffirmed their decision to meet in Trinidad and Tobago in 2009.

The CHOGM is the supreme body of the Commonwealth.

It is convened every two years to review global, political and economic developments and to conduct a strategic overview of the Commonwealth's work in support of the interests of member countries.

The group was welcomed by Vice Presidents Wade Hamilton and Maria Thorne and invited to have lunch.  After lunch, Vice President Arnold De Four delivered a presentation on the natural gas industry of Trinidad and Tobago.  This was followed by a series of questions from both local and regional media personnel.

Mr. Lennox Grant, well-known media personality and member of the National Secretariat, thanked NGC for its hospitality and willingness to answer questions on what is a hot topic across the Caribbean – natural gas.  The group then proceeded on a tour of the Point Lisas Industrial Estate which was facilitated by Mr. Alan de Caires.
