NGC and NAAATT Celebrate Our Dedicated Athletes

2018 was a fantastic year for this four-year partnership, with several successes as a result of the hard work, impassioned dedication, discipline and pursuit of excellence from our national athletes, who we are proud to support.

With an investment of almost $14 million to date, we continue to be deeply committed to driving these athletes from the moment their potential is spotted, right up to the Olympic podium. But this partnership transcends sports. In the words of NGC Chairman, Professor Gerry C. Brooks, “It defines our country, lifts our spirit and is a beacon of hope for people and communities.”

It is impossible to deny the excitement we Trinidadians and Tobagonians feel when we see the colours of our national flag unfurled before the world on the field of international competition. The thrill of seeing that rippling fabric of red, white and black can only be matched by the pride of watching our athletes mount the platform to receive their medals.

In short, we love to watch our athletes win.

But winning takes more than natural talent, a love for the sport, and a desire to be at the head of the pack. There are practicalities to consider. Winning at the highest levels requires the early identification of talent, the selection and grooming of our best young athletes, and the strategic collaboration between coaches, trainers, therapists, managers, and many more, who work with the athletes to harness and fulfil their true potential.

Launch of the NGC Youth Elite Programme

On Wednesday 12th July 2017, representatives of the track and field fraternity gathered at the Head Office of The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) on the Point Lisas Industrial Estate, to launch the NGC Youth Elite Programme. The NGC Youth Elite Programme is intended to facilitate the holistic development of young track and field athletes between the ages of 14 and 20 who have been identified as those with ‘podium-potential’ by 2024. These athletes were selected based on their performance in local, regional and international games in 2016. It is envisioned that with detailed attention, and the opportunity to learn and grow, they will excel regionally and internationally.
